When first seeing this movie title, my initial thoughts were that any movie with the words “Bachelor Party” in its title would only conjur up memories of Tom Hanks, Adrian Zmed, and yes, even Tawny Kitaen from the 80’s classic by the same name. So seeing this movie’s name, with the addition of that magic word “Vegas” could only make it more memorable, right? Add to that the names Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Vinny Pastore (Sopranos) as well as the solid Donald Faison (Scrubs), and I figured I was in for a night of side-splitting laughter.
I was wrong. Way wrong.
Bachelor Party Vegas ranks up there with likes of Celtic Pride and Benchwarmers as perhaps the worst comedies ever. The premise is not half-bad (I don’t want to play spoiler here, but if you’ve seen Michael Douglas’s The Game I think you’ll agree), but the screenplay is horrendous. This movie is full of meaningless scenes and dialogue, and moves at an uncomfortable pace. For example, early in, the cliche’ airplane scene where the boys fly to Vegas is at least 10 minutes — way too long and with minimal character development.
There are a few saving graces — some great set pieces, impressive cameos (Chuck Liddell, Jaime Pressley), some funny one-liners, but other than that there’s very little I can say as to why anyone should see this movie. If you look up this movie on IMDB, you’ll see the movie was filmed in 16 days — what a surprise.
Take my advice, and don’t gamble on Bachelor Party Vegas — and that’s a sure thing.
